And there was Back to School Night.

You just never know who's gonna show up. Good students, the worst, random kids in the middle.

And almost invariably, the parents' first question. Not the "Why don't they have an A?" which is typical in more affluent districts, but the "Are they behaving themselves? Are they good?"

And you have to wonder how many times have they been called out on their kids' behavior.

And as a teacher. you just really have to separate the kid and the grade. Sure, this kid is going to totally flunk, because of Issues, but that doesn't make them a bad kid. Some of my kids who don't do diddly-squat are still my pets. Yeah, sure, they'll flunk your class, but you being someone who they can talk to is worth more to them than class credits.

It's a crazy world.
